Block Sites from Google’s Web Search Results

Image
Block Sites from Google’s Web Search Results Couple of days ago I wrote about how search results are becoming worse every time. This is because of all the spam around there that makes really difficult to show relevant results. The post also mentioned that human intervention is needed since sometimes an algorithm is not enough to filter real sources from spam. It seems that Google heard that because today they released a new Chrome extension which allows users to block sites from Googles web search results. The extension is really easy to use and the information collected from the users will be sent back to Google for further analysis and might help them improving their results and gives quality search results. The extension allows you to block and unblock sites and also edit your blocked site list by just pressing the extension icon. This is an experimental extension but it is really worth a try. We can help improving search results and stop spam and content farms.

Book Review IBM Lotus Domino Classic Web Application Development Techniques by Richard G Ellis Part 2

Book Review IBM Lotus Domino Classic Web Application Development Techniques by Richard G Ellis Part 2 In part one of my review, I looked at the opening and closing chapters of this book. Theyre fairly non-technical and provide a very useful set of guidelines for the development and testing of Lotus Domino applications - and theyre just as relevant to XPages development. In part two, I want to look at the middle chapters. These chapters cover CSS and JavaScript as it relates to forms, views and agents. The book talks about some features which are only available in Notes/Domino 8.5 but it never discusses XPages. If youre already a domino developer and youre looking to move into XPages, then this book certainly isnt for you. If however, youve been using Notes and want to quickly port some applications to the web or if youre familiar with classic HTML, CSS and JavaScript but want to get some Domino projects off the ground, then this is the right book. Of course, if youre on a version of no...

Book Review IBM Lotus Domino Classic Web Application Development Techniques by Richard G Ellis Part 1

Book Review IBM Lotus Domino Classic Web Application Development Techniques by Richard G Ellis Part 1 Im doing this review in two parts because the opening and closing chapters of this book are vastly different from the rest. I have to admit to wondering, when I was first asked to review this book, exactly what the market was that its aimed at. After all, arent all domino developers heading towards XPages now? Could a book on "traditional web programming in domino" still be relevant today? Well, surprisingly it is. The opening chapters deal with issues and requirements that our developers and I still constantly struggle with . They cover version control, issues logs, staging servers, commenting/documentation, standards and the big killer "scope creep". There are sections on using the "champions" in your office to drive projects, maintaining consistent URLs and setting up a developer test environment. These are aspects which affect all domino development re...

Book Review Instant Flask Web Development by Ron DuPlain

Book Review Instant Flask Web Development by Ron DuPlain "Instant Flask Web Development" by Ron DuPlain (Packt Publishing http://www.packtpub.com/flask-web-development/book) is intended to be an introduction to Flask, a lightweight web application framework written in Python and based on the Werkzeug WSGI toolkit and Jinja2 template engine. The book takes a tutorial style approach, building up an example appointment-management web application using Flask and introducing various features of the framework on the way. As the example application becomes more complicated, additional Python packages are covered which are not part of the Flask framework (for example SQLAlchemy for managing interactions with a database backend, and WTForm for handling form generation and validation) along with various Flask extensions that can be used for more complicated tasks (for example managing user logins and sessions). The final section of the book gives an overview of how to deploy the applic...
