Image
Bodhi Linux 2 2 0 Released The Bodhi Team and I are very happy to present to you our 2.2.0 release - the first Bodhi images to feature the stable E17 desktop. As with all minor Bodhi release existing users can simply upgrade their existing installs of Bodhi 2.x.y This release is exciting for a number of reasons. To start with, we are introducing a few new things with this update release. With this release, we will now be maintaining two 32bit install discs: One that is PAE enabled by default and one that is not. The kernel without PAE will be an older stable kernel (in this case 3.2) while the PAE enabled kernel will be the latest kernel - for 2.2.0 this means 3.7 kernel. Our 64bit release also comes with the 3.7 kernel. These discs are also our first released images that are hybrid ISO images. This means that you can write the image directly to a flash drive simply using the dd command and it will become a bootable media. You no longer need to use unetbootin (unless you want to) to cr...

Bodhi Linux 1 2 0 is Released! Added support for ARM

Image
Bodhi Linux 1 2 0 is Released! Added support for ARM Bodhi Linux is another distribution thats based on Ubuntu. Although it seems that theyve done a lot of changes to the system... it seems like a completely different distribution to me ;-). Anyhow, Bodhi linux is not for everyone though, in a way. The reason is simple. It uses the Enlightenment Window manager as the desktop "creator" which has a  reputation of being extremely fast and low on system resource. But if youre looking for a modern desktop with fancy effects + with features that Major desktops such as Gnome/Qt-KDE or even the relatively new Unity desktop, etc offers, then you may not like it. Okay, I take back that "not a modern desktop" part ;-)... But the rest assured, if youre looking for complete desktop with extremely faster responsiveness, well in that case, Bodhi Linux can be extremely competitive. Unlike many other distributions, Bodhi also has a completely different UI design thats optimized for ...

BleachBit 0 9 Is Released How to Install it in Ubuntu Linux

Image
BleachBit 0 9 Is Released How to Install it in Ubuntu Linux Few hours after my little CCleaner (system cleaner for MS Windows) bragging ;-), I checked for updates about BleachBit and realized they in fact has released it to a new version which makes it now the 0.9!. If youre a bit new, then Bleachbit is another excellent cross-platform (yep, you can use it in both GNU/Linux and MS Windows) free utility, that lets us remove unnecessary files (such as cache and other temporary settings) of a lot of individual applications from a singe "command center" window :). It cleans the web browser cache, cookies, history (Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Chromium and a whole lot others!), GIMP, OpenOffice (although LibreOffice aint supported yet), MS Office, Gnome 2 and the Gnome 3/Shell desktops search and history, Skype, TeamViewer, Yum (Fedoras default software manager), Wordpad, Winrar, Winzip + a huge list of other apps as usual. "one place to rule them all!" ;-)... Just like ...

Bodhi Linux 2 3 0 Released

Image
Bodhi Linux 2 3 0 Released After almost exactly three months since our Bodhi 2.2.0 release the Bodhi team and I are happy to announce the next update release for our 2.x.y series - Bodhi Linux 2.3.0. Again because this is a minor update release people who are already using our 2.x.y branch can simply upgrade to this release via their package manager. Something else I would like to mention is that next month our 1.x.y series release will be reaching its end of life next month (meaning our repos for it will be fully shutdown) so this is a great time to upgrade to our matured 2.x.y release if youve been waiting. For those who dont care to hear my ramblings, you can find direct download links for our ISO images on Source Forge here and then torrent downloads for the ISO images here (please help seed for a few days if you can). As with our 2.2.0 release there are three disc downloads for this version: 32bit featuring a current PAE enabled kernel 32bit featuring a non-PAE kerne...

Bodhi Linux 1 4 0 Released

Image
Bodhi Linux 1 4 0 Released The end of March is approaching and that means our first quarter update release is here! As is the case with all our update release packages are fairly fresh. Enlightenment has been built from a fresh SVN pull from March 20th and the default Midori browser has been updated to the latest release: A more current build of the Linux kernel is in use as well. We are using the 3.2.0-19 build from upstream Ubuntu sources this release: Beyond that you will find current versions of other non-default software in our repositories including Firefox 11, Chromium 17 and LibreOffice 3.5 A new feature this LiveCD sports that previous releases lacked is the ability to boot fully into system memory (RAM). Selecting this option will take slightly long for the live environment to boot (and needs at least 512meg RAM) - but once it is fully loaded things will run much quicker than they do from the CD and you can even eject/remove the disc! Neat right? We also implemented a number ...
