If you are having more than one core in your processors then just follow the steps to make your Ubuntu to boot faster!      All we going to do is, run boot-time scripts in parallel . While booting Ubuntu will run several scripts which start necessary background services. You can configure Ubuntu to run scripts in Parallel.      1. Open the following file in Gedit using the command. $ gksu gedit /etc/init.d/rc      2. Search for the line which has " CONCURRENCY=none " and change it to  " CONCURRENCY=shell ".      3. Boot problem with aswrvrt sys Problem:  PC wont boot 1.  Safe mode (Failed)      The first thing I did was to check if it goes to Safe mode.        To go to safe mode press F8 before booting.      Went a menu shows up select Safe mode.   My PC can go to Safe but cannot uninstall avast. Upon observation the booting process stops at aswrvrt.sys. 2.   A forum suggested to use "Avastcenter". but it yield the same result. Boot repair I installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop, followed by an Ubuntu setup. The problem is that grup didnt seem to successfully set up itself on /sda. On the next bootup, Win8 started automatically, which is not what I want. The solution was to boot up on the ubuntu live dvd and put these in the terminal: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install boot-repair boot-repair You just need to choose "Recommended repair" and follow the on-screen instructions.
